Cubanacan Club De Pesca is proud to announce our 2nd Anual "Mano a Mano" Yoyo Fishing Tournament. Forget rods and reels. This is fishing at its most rudimentary. Hand
to hand (mano a mano) combat with your quary.
Yoyo fishing has a long tradition in most of the Caribbean islands but it is especially
prevalent in Cuba. Many Cubans brought the tradition to South Florida and
many of us grew up fishing with Yoyos. Yoyo fishing is inexpensive and offers
great portability. Drop a few yoyos in a five gallon bucket and
you are ready
to go fishing. Many commercial yellowtail fishermen prefer this method of
fishing as it allows for quick retrieval of your fish and quick deployment of your
line to the same exact distance where you just caught the fish.
This tournament came about because many of our members are proficient rod and reel
fisherman but we felt it was time to test their fishing prowess with the tools of
their ancestors. We then heard from many friends that may not share the same
Cuban heritage but wanted to see what yoyo fishing was all about.
We
hope that you decide to join us for our
2nd Anual "Mano a Mano" Yoyo Fishing Tournament.
We guarantee that you will have a great time. Our tournament director is Tony
Albelo who is known for putting on some of the best tournaments in S. Florida.
Amongst these is Florida's Funnest Tournament, The Groveslam. Not
only will you challenge your fishing skills during this tournament but you will
experience great Cuban food, drinks, and comradeship.
